One day and an exceptional person can change your running life for ever.  I was inspired by a USA sprint coach running legioned Bud Winter, who trained USA Olympic sprint gold medalists in the 1960′s.

Imagine my surprize when I read today Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake’s coach Glenn Mills was also totally inspired by Bud Winter when he went to Jamacia in 1966 to do a series of seminars.  Glenn Mills contributes much of Jamaica’s sprinting explosion to the influence of this great coach.

My life changed in January 1973 when Bud Winter came to Mount Smart to watch me and others train.  After seeing me he described me as tall and strong but like an iron deer in a garden, meaning I was stiff and not relaxed in my running style.  He showed us how to use our arms effectively, discussed the importance of total relaxation along with other basic speed skills.  Two months later at the age of 20 I won my first Senior 100m title.  I have continued to preach and develop the Bud Winter methods for the last 40 years as does Usain Bolts coach Glenn Mills.

This proves that great training methods do not have an expiry date!

Usain Bolt wins 200m gold - 2015 IAAF World Championships Beijing - 19.55s

Usain Bolt has added another medal to his list.  Deemed the fastest man alive, Bolt dashed his way to first place during the 200m race at the 2015 World Athletics Championships in Beijing, China.

Usain Bolt reached the finish line in 19.55 seconds, defeating America’s Justin Gatlin who crossed the end in 19.74 seconds.

In an interview with BBC Sport, the 29-year-old decorated athlete said, “It’s great, a fourth [world title] win over 200m and it means a lot to me. I’m happy to be a 10-time World Championships gold medalist, especially when people have been saying I would lose.”

Usain Bolt: I want to be the best, that's my motivation.
